Yesterday Stilling

Contemplating weakness and pain and why I’m late…

   Yesterday Stilling

My back did go out
Yesterday stilling my voice
But for pain filled shouts

&

   Of Clay

And now but a rock
Or a wobbly lump of clay
Learning how to walk

A Personal Challenge

Doing what should be done, or not, or must…

Excerpted from   –   A Personal Challenge

…As a general Robert should have turned
But this king and this man could not refuse to fight at this Bannock Burn

The eyes of all his fellow Scots looked to him
As their king and champion

Whatever his reasons Robert spurred his horse and moved to meet the foe
Quiet, as all waited to see how the fight would go…

My Son Knew

Laughing at life…

   My Son Knew

Once again
The training has saved my life
This many more times than twice
The trained reactions take care of me like an old friend

The first two lines all I said
And from only that much my son knew
At hearing his certainty I bellowed with laughter

And he waited for the story that would come
Sure I’d fallen like something he’d do
Glad I wasn’t dead

Three steps up then flat onto my face. Marble doesn’t bend
Limping the next few days. Bruised the price
But still with my life
Once again

Sing-Song Of Whales

Contemplating perspective…

   Sing-Song Of Whales

Seas subtle and blunt
The sing-song of whales echo
Submariners hunt

That’s Real

Contemplating the nature of love…

Excerpted from   –   That’s Real

Despite what you feel
I love you, like you, am more attracted to you than
Ever. Each year, each month, each day that passes has fanned
My passion’s fire until the heat makes me kneel…

Cause Of Such

Contemplating the nature of duty…

   Cause of Such

It’s words like duty
The cause of such abhorrence
Honor and beauty

Feeling the Fears

For the women in my life that keep on…

   Feeling the Fears

She wonders how she can go on
Fighting all the little demons

In her body
Wasn’t ready

For this awful test of courage
The fatigue and pain discourage

Mighty spirits
Grown to fear it

But courage’s not feeling no fears
It’s going on despite the tears

That cloud the eye
Wiping them dry

She picks herself up and strides forth
Not knowing how, only of course

For the loved ones
She can’t be done

So she stands yet another day
And will yet again come what may

Until she mends
Or til the end

Stands Ready

Of love and commitment…

   Stands Ready

A father watches
And stands ready to battle
Strife the kid catches

Seven Was Enough

Contemplating struggle…

Excerpted from   –   Seven Was Enough

In legend, Robert lay restless in a cave
Taken with grief
At the horrors beyond belief
He’d brought to family and friends that led to their graves

He pondered giving it up
Of sailing off to the holy land
But at that moment espied a spider

Struggling to reach the wall while he lay there
Six times it was that it failed…

All The History

Of love and commitment…

   All The History

An old man speaks of
His wife and all the history
Still so much in love
