Of the grim and of redemption…
Bleak Landscape
The sparse rain spells doom
Barren in this bleak landscape
Desert flowers bloom

Regarding heroism…
Excerpted from – No Asking Why
…Then thinking he might be ok he got out to prove
That he still could and stepped out into bedlam
Get away before more concrete rained
But hearing screams crossed the bridge hoping to find a way
To save the children in the bus from falling
Further. There was no stalling
And no asking why

From – Bridges Don’t Fall Down: Stories from the I35W Bridge Collapse
Regarding fear, courage, and heroes…
A Hero None the Less
And in our most hallowed halls is where he is found
Fighting with passion loving his land
Under loads that would strike many down
Always he’s given more than duty demands
At the powerful it’s fun he pokes
Including himself to our delight
Never far from a smile or a light hearted joke
Even when it’s for his death his enemies hoped

Contemplating fear, panic, and mass hysteria… On the other hand…
The End of All
Such hype and concern
The end of all but once more
The world did not burn

Poking fun at the end of the world… Once more… On the other hand…
Contemplating love, commitment, and fear…
The Sun Rises
What is it you fear
The sun rises, then it sets
Lovers grow too near

From – Short Thoughts: A Book of Haiku (aWIP)
Courage is not the absence of fear…
Excerpted from – Images Came in a Torrent
…But the falling felt like forever so much time packed
Into scant seconds but that’s what she recalls
Maybe time just stopped
Then started again as tragic images came in a torrent
People were yelling and screaming for help above the din her
Thoughts turned toward those people and caring for the injured
Doing what she could for the moment

I dream of better
Things for all of our children
Minds yet unfettered

Duty and the fight…
Excerpted from… Governor of Carlisle
Robert the Elder and Lord of Annandale
Received the command
From Edward, King of England
To repulse the Scots. And so he did when they assailed
The great castle at Carlisle
The two John Comyns
Earl of Buchan and the Lord of Badenoch
With six more earls brought
An army to those walls and tried to storm in
But the Elder with his men held tenaciously while…

In contemplation…
So Many Think
I cannot fathom
How so many think they know
The way to heaven
